What you get back
customer_price is the all-in price shown to the buyer in US dollars. eta_window_days is a transit time estimate, not a guarantee. expires_at is when the price stops being valid. quote_id identifies the quote; send the buyer to the booking page for that id to complete the order.
Booking
Booking happens on autotransportvehicle.com, so card and contact details never pass through your systems. Link the buyer to the booking page for the quote id, in a new tab or as the next step of your flow. The booking keeps the quote's attribution to your key.
Security and limits
Each key works only from the origins approved on your partner account. A browser request from any other site gets a 403 and no price. Server-to-server calls without an Origin header are accepted, so keep the key on your server when you call the API that way. Rate limits are per client IP; the full error table, limits and versioning policy are on the developer docs.
When to use the API instead of the widget
Use the API when the quote must look native to your product, appear inside a multi-step checkout, or feed an internal tool. Use the quote form when you want a finished, accessible interface with no front-end work.
Questions
Is the API price the same as the widget price?
Yes. The widget calls the same endpoint. Both return the live price from the quote engine used by our fulfillment partner, with no difference by channel.
Can we test without creating real orders?
Yes. Sandbox keys return real prices while bookings are simulated and never sent to the fulfillment partner. The developer docs list the sandbox key and the origins it works on.
Does the API return personal data?
No. Quote requests and responses contain ZIP codes, vehicle type, transport type and dates. Buyer contact and payment details are collected only on the booking page.
Industries that use it
- Online marketplacesMarketplaces connect buyers and sellers who are rarely in the same city. Built-in transport pricing removes the last reason to stop at "contact seller", using the widget or your own interface on the API.
- Auto auctionsAuction buyers need the car moved, often from a lot hundreds of miles away and often on a deadline. Put a prefilled transport quote on the won-vehicle page and transport stops being a separate errand.
- Collector and classicCollector buyers rarely live near the car, and they care how it travels. Quote enclosed transport by default on high-value listings so the buyer sees the real cost of getting the car home.
